Join MPAC as we perform this traditional holiday classic. The
story begins as preparations are underway for a Christmas party
hosted by Herr and Frau Burgermeister. The Nutcracker is a
Christmas gift to their daughter, Clara, from her eccentric uncle
at the party. After the Nutcracker is broken by her younger brother, Clara
lovingly cradles her Nutcracker and falls asleep beneath the
Christmas tree. As she sleeps, the toys under the tree
become life-size and Clara's Nutcracker leads the toy soldiers in a battle
against the Rats. The Nutcracker and Rat King fight a duel,
Clara saves the life of the Nutcracker, and he becomes a
handsome prince. He escorts Clara on a magical
journey through the Land of Snow where the Snow Queen and
snowflakes dance for them. They journey on to the Land of
Sweets. There they are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy who
throws them a lavish party with dances from Spain, Arabia,
Russia, and Asia. The flowers also dance and finally, in The
Nutcracker's most familiar waltz, the Sugar Plum Fairy dances.
Clara and her prince leave the Land of Sweets and Clara awakens
the next morning under the Christmas tree with The Nutcracker
still clutched in her arms.
